THE STAND OUT LEADERS: Leadership
My dad was the king of “dad” jokes. Back when he shared his brand of humor there was no label for it. He just said…hmmmm… some funny things.
One that comes to mind was descriptor of an individual who was excellent at what they did. He would say, “They are like a farmer. Out standing in their field.”
Dean Smith was the late basketball coach of the University of North Carolina. He would definitely be an individual who was outstanding in his field.
His record was 879-254 in his 36 seasons at UNC. Two NCAA Championships and one NIT Title.
His coaching effectiveness was less about titles and more about the players he developed. He said, “ The most important thing in good leadership is truly caring.”
When Dean Smith passed away, his estate sent former UNC players a $200 check for a dinner out on him.
The leaders who are outstanding in their field master relationships, build trust, and truly care about those they lead.
Coach AJ Kings posts on X/Twitter. He shared 5 signs you're following an outstanding leader
They care about your well-being, not just your performance. People won't fully give their best unless they believe you care about them.
They encourage your growth: Great leaders recognize that each person has unique strengths. They create an environment where individual strengths can be developed and utilized.
They lead by example: A team will never be what the leader is not.
They are master communicators: Great leaders communicate with you, they don't speak at you.Their ability to communicate effectively prevents misunderstandings, improves collaboration, and supports effective problem-solving and decision-making.
They are people of character: They are always sincere in their interactions. They communicate the truth. They will hold you accountable and tell you the truth even when it's tough to hear.
